What You're Actually Getting on Your Foot

The 3D toe box is one of the most rider-relevant improvements on the SG22. It reduces the height between the sole and the shift lever, cutting down the distance your foot travels on every gear change. Small detail, real difference — especially on technical terrain where clean shifts matter. Ankle protection runs through the Dual Stage Pivot System — two mechanical limit switches that allow natural movement up to a safe range, then physically stop the joint before hyperextension, hyperflexion, or lateral damage can occur. It's a proper engineered system, not just a stiff cuff. The front shin guard moves between two positions and combines with the three-position upper locking lever so you can set the fit properly around your calf and knee brace rather than just hoping it works out. The memory foam ankle liner has been redesigned to take the actual shape of your ankle over time — better stability, less dead feeling after a full season of hard use. Grip Guard rubber on the inner leg keeps your leg seated against the shroud without you having to actively grip harder to compensate. Is this actually a limited edition or just a colorway? Genuinely limited. Gaerne made this specifically for Graham Jarvis's 50th birthday. It's not a continuing colorway — production has a fixed run and once stock clears, it won't be restocked. Can I actually ride in these or are they more of a collector's piece? Ride them. The Jarvis Edition runs the full SG22 spec underneath — same construction, same protection, same fit as every other SG22. The limited edition side is about the design and production numbers, not a reduced performance build. How does the fit compare to the SG12? Wider across the forefoot. Gaerne specifically addressed the narrow fit some SG12 riders had issues with, particularly those with wider feet. If the SG12 ever pinched your little toe or felt tight across the front, the SG22 will feel noticeably better. Will these work with knee braces? Yes. Between the three-position upper locking lever and the two-position adjustable shin guard, you have real flexibility to fit properly over most knee brace setups.
