Dunlop Geomax Trial TL01 Front Tire – 80/100-21
Trial riding punishes tires in ways that most off-road disciplines don't. Low speed, high torque, rocks that are either bone dry or completely slick depending on the shade and the weather, and the constant demand for precise traction control at near-zero mph. A tire that works well on a motocross track or a dirt trail doesn't necessarily translate to a trials section — the grip requirements are different, the surface contact demands are different, and the margin for error is much smaller.
Dunlop built the Geomax TL01 specifically for that environment. The tire is new from the ground up — new tread pattern, new compound, new groove geometry — and each element was developed around the specific demands of competition trial and technical single-track riding.
The High-Adhesion Compound uses oil to increase the rubber's flexibility, which keeps the tire conforming to irregular rock surfaces rather than skating across them. On top of that, special carbon elements in the compound convert impact energy into heat, which further increases grip on slick, cold, or wet surfaces — exactly the conditions where trial sections get won or lost. The shoulder blocks use Dunlop's Specialized Groove Channel Technology, which gives each block three times the structural strength of the previous D803GP design. Stronger blocks mean more resistance to folding and tearing under the lateral loads that come with slow-speed technical maneuvering.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this tire only for competition trial riding or can I use it on technical single-track?
Both. The TL01 was developed for competition trial but the traction and grip characteristics translate well to challenging single-track conditions where low-speed control and grip on varied surfaces matter. It's not a general motocross tire — it's purpose-built for slow, technical terrain.Does this tire require a tube?
Yes. The TT designation means tube-type — a tube is required for this tire. It will not seal or hold air on a tubeless rim without one.How does the H-AC compound actually improve grip on slick rocks?
The oil in the compound keeps the rubber softer and more flexible at low temperatures and under low-speed loads. That flexibility allows the tire to conform more closely to the surface texture of rock rather than sitting on top of it. The carbon elements then generate heat from impact, which keeps the compound in its optimal grip range even on cold or shaded terrain. How does the TL01 compare to the D803GP it replaces?
The SGCT shoulder blocks are three times stronger than the D803GP design, which addresses the block tearing and folding that aggressive trial riders experienced on the older tire. The compound is also entirely new — the D803GP used a different formulation that didn't have the carbon element heat conversion technology the TL01 carries. What size tube do I need for the 80/100-21?
An 80/100-21 tube is the correct size. Most trials and off-road specific tube manufacturers list this size directly. Always match the tube size to the tire size for proper fitment and to avoid pinch flats. Is this tire road legal?
The TL01 is an off-road competition tire and is not DOT approved for street use. It's designed for closed-course trial competition and off-road trail riding only.
