Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart IV Rear Motorcycle Tire

If you've ever had to choose between a tire that grips hard in the corners and one that actually lasts, the Roadsmart IV is Dunlop's answer to that annoying trade-off. It's their flagship sport-touring rear tire, and it's built to do both — hold its line when you're leaned over, and still have tread left after a few thousand highway miles. This rear pairs with the Roadsmart IV front for a full sport-touring setup, and it comes in five sizes to fit most sport-touring and adventure-touring bikes on the road today.

What Makes It Work

The big upgrade here is Dunlop's MT Multi-Tread technology. In plain terms, the center of the rear tire uses a harder, long-wearing compound for all those straight-line highway miles, while the shoulders get a softer, grippier compound for when you actually lean the bike over. That's the main reason Dunlop is claiming 23–26% more mileage than the Roadsmart III — without sacrificing the cornering feel riders actually care about. They also reworked the sidewall construction, which improves handling in both wet and dry conditions and makes the ride noticeably more comfortable, especially on longer stretches. And front to rear, the compound uses Hi Silica X and Fine Carbon, which basically means better grip in the rain and shorter stopping distances when you need to get on the brakes in a hurry.

Quick Rundown

Improved sidewall construction for better wet/dry handling and a smoother ride
23–26% more mileage compared to the Roadsmart III
MT Multi-Tread rear compound — durable in the center, grippy on the shoulders
Hi Silica X and Fine Carbon compounds front and rear for stronger wet grip and braking
Tubeless (TL) construction
Available in 160/60ZR17, 170/60ZR17, 180/55ZR17, 190/50ZR17, and 190/55ZR17

Who This Is For

Anyone putting real miles on a sport-touring or adventure-touring bike — riders who want a tire that's just as happy on a twisty backroad as it is on a long commute or a cross-country trip.
