Kuryakyn LED Rear Fender Strip Lights For Indian – Chrome (Part #2898)

Indian Built A Beautiful Bike. Then They Forgot The Rear Lighting.

I love Indian motorcycles. I really do. But look at the back of a Chief, a Chieftain, or a Springfield. What do you see? A tiny little tail light that gets lost in the chrome. At night? You are basically a candle rolling down the highway. Cars do not see you until they are right on top of you. This is the Kuryakyn LED Rear Fender Strip Light. Part #2898. Chrome finished. It is a low-profile LED strip that mounts right on the rear fender. It adds extra running light and brake light across the whole width of the fender. When you hit the brakes, that whole strip lights up bright red. Cars behind you cannot miss it.

Why Chrome?

Because your Indian has chrome. Fender tips. Exhaust. Engine covers. A black plastic light would look like an afterthought. The chrome housing on this blends right in. It looks like it came from the factory that way.

What Does This Actually Do?

Two things.First, it makes you visible. The stock tail light is small. This adds a second brake light zone. More light = less chance of getting rear ended.Second, it cleans up the look. The strip follows the curve of the fender. It is not a big boxy light. It is sleek. Low profile. You will forget it is there until you see how bright it is at night.

Features & Benefits

  • Bright LEDs: Much brighter than the stock bulb. You will see the difference the first time you hit the brakes at a stoplight.
  • Chrome Housing: Matches the factory chrome on your Indian. Does not look like an add-on.
  • Low Profile: Sits flat against the fender. Does not stick out and look ugly.
  • Running Light & Brake Light: Stays on dim when cruising, goes bright when you brake. Same as your stock light, just bigger and brighter.
  • Sealed Against Weather: Rain, road salt, pressure washer. These LEDs are sealed up tight.

Vehicle Fitment

This is designed for Indian motorcycles. Specifically models with a rear fender that can accept a strip light.Fits most:
  • Indian Chief (various years)
  • Indian Chieftain
  • Indian Springfield
  • Indian Roadmaster
Important: This is a universal-style fender strip. It is not a direct plug-and-play for every single Indian model. You may need to do some basic wiring (splice into your existing tail light wires). It is two wires. Red to brake, black to ground. If you can change a battery, you can do this.

FAQ

Will this replace my stock tail light or work with it?
Work with it. The stock tail light stays where it is. This mounts lower on the fender. You end up with two brake lights. That is a good thing.
Is this plug-and-play?
Not exactly. It does not come with a factory connector. You will need to splice into your tail light wires. It takes ten minutes. Use a wire tap or solder it. No big deal.
Will this fit my Scout?
Maybe. The Scout has a smaller fender. Measure first. The strip is a certain length. If your fender is too short or too curved, it might not sit flat. Check the dimensions before you buy.
Is this street legal?
Yes. It is red. It works as a running light and brake light. It does not flash. It does not strobe. It is legal in all 50 states.
Why do I need this if my stock light works fine?
Because "works fine" and "keeps you from getting hit" are two different things. That little stock tail light is hard to see from a distance. This strip light makes you look like a car from behind. Bigger brake light = more reaction time for the guy on his phone behind you.
How hard is the install?
You will need to remove the fender or at least get under it. Drill two small mounting holes (or use double-sided tape if you are nervous about drilling). Run the wires. Connect to your tail light wires. If you have done any wiring on a bike before, this is easy. If you have never touched a wire, pay a shop. It will take them 30 minutes.
Is this the same as the "Omni" strip Kuryakyn makes?
No. The Omni is their flexible strip that can be cut to length. This is a rigid pre-made strip with a chrome housing. It is a specific fitment for Indian fenders. The Omni is more universal. This one looks cleaner because the housing matches your bike.
