Dunlop Sportmax Q5 Front Tire - 110/70ZR17 M/C (54W) TL

The tire that blurs the line between DOT-legal and full race slick. Here's the thing about the Q5. Dunlop took everything they learned from the Q4 and from running MotoAmerica and basically said, "Let's make a street tire that cheats." Because this thing has no business being this sticky while still having tread on it.I've seen guys show up to track days with slicks on a trailer. Then I've seen guys ride the Q5 to the track, run intermediate group times, and ride home. Same tire. That's the point.

Features & Benefits (What Actually Matters)

1. Racing Type Fine Carbon Technology (The Sticky Stuff)Most tire compounds use regular carbon black. Dunlop uses smaller particles specifically for racing. More particles = more bonding points with the rubber = more mechanical grip. What this means for you: The tire grabs pavement like a cat on carpet. No warmers needed either—just two laps at pace and you're there.2. IRP Profile (Intuitive Response Profile)The front tire has a taller, narrower shape than the Q4. Sounds backwards, right? But here's why: that taller profile gives you a bigger contact patch when you're leaned over. Benefit: You can pick your line mid-corner without the bike fighting you. It turns in like a 600 but holds like a liter bike.3. JLT Construction (Jointless Tread)Most tires have a seam where the tread meets itself. The Q5 uses a continuously wound strip for the rear (and a specialized 2-CUT belt for the front with Aramid layers). Why you care: No dead spots. No weird vibrations at 150 mph. Just consistent flex and feedback from the first lap to the last.4. The "Cheater" Tread PatternLook at the grooves. They're shallow and placed close to the center. Dunlop basically kept just enough tread to keep the DOT cops happy. Real-world benefit: More rubber on the road at every lean angle. And when you hit a surprise rain shower? Those center grooves actually channel water well enough to keep you upright getting home.

FAQ

Is this tire street legal?
Yes. DOT-approved. But barely. Dunlop designed it as the closest thing to a race slick that still has tread for legal street use.
How long will it last?
Real talk: not long if you ride hard. The Q5 prioritizes grip over mileage. Expect 1,500-2,500 miles on the street depending on how many canyon runs you do. Track days will eat it faster. If you want longevity, look at the Q5S or Q5A.
Do I need tire warmers?
Nope. That's the whole point. Warm-up is quick—two corners at a reasonable pace and you're there. Dunlop engineered it to run at close to street pressures without warmers.
What's the difference between Q5 and Q5S?
Q5 is track-first, street-second. Q5S has a Multi-Tread (MT) rear compound—harder in the center for mileage, softer on the shoulders for cornering. Q5A is the street-focused version.
Will this fit my [insert bike here]?
If your bike runs a 110/70-17 front from the factory (most sport bikes 250cc-400cc, some 600s/1000s use a 120/70), yes. But double-check your current tire size first.
