Gaerne has been making boots in Italy for over 60 years. The SG12 was their flagship for a long time — won championships on both sides of the Atlantic, earned a loyal following, and became the boot a lot of serious riders swore by. The SG22 Chameleon is what comes after that. Not a rebrand. A genuine evolution built on real feedback from real riders, including pro enduro and motocross racers who helped shape it.The Chameleon colorway gives it a distinctive look on the bike without going loud. But the real story is what's inside and how it rides. The 3D toe box drops the height between the sole and the shift lever — cleaner, faster shifts without having to think about foot position. The redesigned memory foam ankle liner molds to your ankle rather than just sitting around it, which adds real stability on longer days without that packed-out, dead feeling you get from cheaper foam after a season of use. Riders who found the SG12 a touch narrow across the forefoot will notice the wider footbed straight away. The Dual Stage Pivot System handles ankle protection through two mechanical limit switches — not just stiff construction. It stops hyperextension, hyperflexion, and lateral movement at the point where injury happens, while still letting your ankle move naturally within a safe range. The front shin guard adjusts in two positions and pairs with the three-position upper locking lever, so you can actually dial the fit around your calf and knee brace rather than just hoping it works out.Ventilation runs through front air vents and 3D internal channels that keep airflow moving during hard motos. The Grip Guard rubber strip on the inner leg keeps your leg planted against the shroud without having to squeeze harder to compensate. Aluminum superlight buckles. Dual density sole with microshock heel. Handcrafted in Italy.Available in sizes 8 through 12.

Do the SG22s need a break-in period?Plan for a few rides before they feel completely right. Straight out of the box they can feel stiff — that's just the nature of a boot built this solid. Most riders find three or four proper rides is all it takes. Don't write them off after the first moto. How do these fit compared to the SG12?Roomier across the forefoot. Gaerne widened the footbed on the SG22, so if the SG12 ever pinched your little toe or felt tight on a wider foot, you'll notice the difference straight away. The ankle area uses slightly less memory foam too, which works better for bigger ankles on longer rides. Can I fit knee braces with these boots?Yes, and the boot is set up for it. The upper locking lever adjusts in three positions and the front shin guard moves in two — use both to get a proper fit over most knee brace setups without forcing anything. Are these good for enduro or just motocross? Both. The SG22 was developed alongside enduro racers including the 2022 EnduroGP World Champion. The ankle protection, ventilation, and sole feel hold up just as well on a full day of enduro as they do on a sprint moto. How does the ankle protection actually work? It's a mechanical system — not just a stiff cuff. Two physical limit switches stop your ankle before it reaches the range where hyperextension, hyperflexion, or lateral movement causes injury. It moves naturally with you up to a safe range, then stops. That's a real difference from a boot that just relies on bulk. What does the 3D toe box actually change? It lowers the profile between the sole and the top of the toe box, shortening the distance your foot travels to reach the shift lever. Anyone who's fumbled a gear change mid-corner will notice that difference quickly.Do these run true to size?Generally yes, but Gaerne sizing can vary slightly depending on foot shape. If you're between sizes or on the wider side, sizing up is worth considering. Check Gaerne's size chart against your measured foot length before ordering — boots are one of those things you really don't want to get wrong.
