Turbosmart Kompact Dual Port BOV (Shortie) – Ford F-150 EcoBoost / Focus ST Part #: TS-0203-1061

The Factory Bypass Valve is a Leaky Mess. Here’s the Fix.

If you own a 2011-2012 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost or a 2012-2019 Focus ST, you have probably noticed something annoying. You hit the gas, the boost builds, you let off… and the truck just feels mushy for a second. Or worse, you are losing boost between shifts. That is your stock plastic bypass valve bleeding pressure. It’s a common weak point. This is the Turbosmart Kompact Dual Port (Shortie) . It replaces that junk plastic unit with a billet aluminum valve that actually holds boost. And because it’s a “Dual Port,” it vents pressure to both the atmosphere (so you get that signature whoosh sound) and recirculates back into the intake (so your engine doesn’t get confused and run rich).

Shortie vs. Standard – Why This One?

The “Shortie” designation matters. The standard Kompact is taller and can hit the firewall or intake manifold on tight engine bays. The Shortie is designed specifically for cramped EcoBoost engine bays (looking at you, F-150). It clears everything without needing adapter spacers.

Features & Benefits

  • Direct Retrofit Fitment: Uses the stock mounting holes and electrical connector. Unplug the old one (three bolts), plug this in. No cutting wires or custom fab work.
  • Billet Aluminum vs. Plastic: The factory valve flexes under high boost. This is machined from a solid block. It won’t crack, leak, or stick closed.
  • Dual Port Design: 50% atmospheric vent (the sound) / 50% recirculation. This keeps the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor happy so you don’t get check engine lights or rich conditions at idle.
  • Dual internal pistons: Unlike single-piston valves that can leak, the Kompact uses a dual-piston setup. It seals tighter under vacuum and opens faster under boost.

Vehicle Fitment (Exact)

This specific part number TS-0203-1061 fits:
  • 2011 – 2012 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost (Factory location, passenger side intercooler pipe)
  • 2012 – 2019 Ford Focus ST (Direct replacement for the factory bypass valve)
*Does NOT fit the 2013+ F-150 EcoBoost without an adapter flange (those moved to a different mount). Double-check your intercooler pipe before ordering if you have a 2013.*

FAQ

Will this make my truck sound like a ricer?
It adds a distinct whoosh when you let off the gas. It’s not obnoxious like an open-atmosphere valve on a Japanese car. It’s more of a “whoosh-psshh” that EcoBoost guys actually want. If you hate noise, get the “Plumb Back” version. This is the Dual Port, so you will hear it.
Do I need a tune to run this blow-off valve?
No. Because it recirculates 50% of the air, the factory ECU never sees a problem. You can bolt this on a bone-stock truck. That said, if you are tuned (MPT, 5-Star, etc.), this valve holds a much better boost than stock, so you will actually make the power the tuner promised.
I have a 2013 F-150. Will this work?
Not directly. Ford moved the BOV location and changed the flange in 2013. You need the Turbosmart “Kompact EM” series or an adapter flange. This Shortie is specifically for the early 2011-12 trucks and the Focus ST.
What is the difference between this and the $40 eBay valves?
The cheap ones leak after three months. The internal springs get weak, or the piston binds. Turbosmart tests every unit on a flow bench. This is the “buy once, cry once” part. If you are chasing boost leaks, start here.
