Bikers Choice Chrome Chopped Handlebar Master Cylinder — 11/16" Bore

Short description: [ Part Number:bkc489988Description:Bikers Choice Chrome 96-07 FL 96-10 ST Dyna 96-03 XL 11/16 Bore Chopped Handlebar Master CylinderFinish:ChromeSize:11/16 in. boreMaterial:Cast aluminumType:Idle] If you’ve ever tried to clean up the bars on an older Harley, you already know the issue. Stock master cylinders are bulky, square-edged, and hard to hide once you start changing risers or bars. This chopped Bikers Choice unit is meant for riders who want less visual clutter without creating brake feel problems later. It’s sized for single-disc setups and older hydraulic systems, so you’re not fighting lever travel or spongy feel after the swap. Common on FL touring bikes, Dynas, and early Sportsters when bars are being changed but the rest of the braking system stays mostly stock.

Why this master cylinder exists

  • The chopped body pulls material off the bottom and sides where it’s not doing any work. You notice it right away once it’s mounted. Bars look lighter.
  • 11/16" bore keeps lever feel familiar on single-disc setups. You don’t have to overthink ratios or guess how it’ll feel on the first ride.
  • Chrome finish matches factory-style controls without standing out like a show part. Wipes clean, doesn’t cloud easily.
  • Cast aluminum housing keeps weight down but still holds up to everyday use. This isn’t a thin-wall race piece.
  • Designed for cable throttle bikes where space around the controls is already tight.

Build notes & fitment details

The housing is cast aluminum with a polished chrome finish. Machining is clean where it matters, especially around the bore and mounting surfaces. Lever fit and piston movement are consistent, which matters more than looks once fluid is in the system. This unit is vehicle-specific by bore size and application. It’s intended for single-disc front brake setups on many 1996–2007 FL touring models, 1996–2010 Dynas, and 1996–2003 Sportsters. If you’re running dual discs or upgraded calipers, this probably isn’t the bore you want. Brake line routing and switch compatibility can vary depending on bars and housings. Plan accordingly if you’re mixing aftermarket controls.

FAQs

What does “chopped” mean on a master cylinder?
It refers to the trimmed-down body shape. Material is removed from non-critical areas to reduce bulk and improve bar appearance.
Is the 11/16" bore good for dual disc brakes?
No. This bore size is best suited for single-disc setups. Dual discs usually need a larger bore to maintain proper lever feel.
Will this work with stock Harley brake lines?
In most cases, yes, assuming stock-style fittings and routing. Bar height changes can still require a different line length.
Does it include a brake lever?
Typically sold as the master cylinder assembly only. Levers are usually matched separately depending on finish and style.
Is this meant for custom builds or stock replacements?
Both. It’s often used on mild customs, but it also works as a cleaner replacement when the original unit is worn or leaking.
Will it clear aftermarket handlebars?
Generally yes. The compact body helps with tight bar bends, especially on narrow or low-rise bars.
Is chrome durable for regular riding?
As long as it’s maintained like any chrome control, it holds up well. Road grime and brake fluid should be cleaned off promptly. This is the kind of part you use when you want the bars to look right without creating new brake problems. Simple piece. Does what it’s supposed to do.
